Lasita in Chinatown is a fabulous Filipino / natural wine spot. It is tucked into the back of a little mall - I think you’ll love the decor and the food was fantastic. https://www.instagram.com/lasita.la?igsh=eXJodGtlNDN4c2Nj

Tito’s Tacos in LA!

I’ll be honest we lived 5 blocks from Tito’s and I don’t understand the appeal. Ik it’s a cult classic but I always found the food super sub par??

Your outfit! I’m wishing you would have bought it too!

It’s such a tragedy! I think about it more often than I care to admit. 😭😉

There is an Alec Soth show opening if you're in LA on the 15th at Sean Kelly Gallery.

Hi from Rebecca, I'm a graphic designer in the San Francisco Bay Area. Loving your inaugural effort—packed with lots of clickable/shareable/inspirational snacks and i look forward to future posts!. Would love to know if the sun journal in the last image is a retail item somewhere, or a one off vintage find?

Thank you so much Rebecca. I'm glad it's speaking to you. The sun journal you mentioned is actually an amazing book (A Designer's Universe) about Alexander Girard, one of my favorite designers. I highly recommend.

Ahhhh, Girard—he's a favorite of mine too. No wonder it grabbed me. Thanks for the book reference.

Baked Bar LA in Culver City has the best gluten free vegan pastries in the entire city. Also regular pastries if you don’t have food restrictions. Highly recommend!!!

Great substack! A couple of LA recommendations - I was there last week. My favorite DTLA restaurant is Hatch: https://www.hatchyalater.com/. Also new to me and excellent is Bar Ama: https://www.bar-ama.com/. My not-so-secret favorite hotel is Sondar The Winfield. I'm a photographer, so I hit the Leica Gallery, which always has a great show, and the superb Peter Fetterman Gallery in Santa Monica. For clothes, Noodle Stories: https://www.noodlestories.com/ and OK The Store: https://okthestore.com/ for a great curated selection of books and well-designed stuff on 3rd in Beverly Hills.

Thank you for all the great recommendations. It's a quick trip so I'll have ot save these for future visits. I love an excuse to get down south.

I welcome your substack, it's nice to have non-political, well written choices-I look forward to it. I agree, much better getting a new battery than the phone going into a landfill. I had to try a few times before getting one as they were reluctant and wanted to sell me a new phone. In L.A. Modernica has a showroom on Beverly Blvd. between there and W 3rd street there are some fun shops...although I haven't been in a while. Modernica also has a Modernism weekend usually in May out at an airplane hanger with both new and vintage items. I've always wanted to go.

Thank you for the kind words and the great recommendations. I would love to make it to Modernica while we’re down there, or maybe now I have an excuse to come back down in May for the Modernist weekend.
